About me

Hello, I’m Sheila Averbuch, a children’s writer based in East Lothian in Scotland, where I write science fiction and fantasySheila Averbuch in Edinburgh novels for kids aged 9 to 12. I’m represented by Jennifer Laughran of Andrea Brown Literary Agency.

I’m passionate about children’s literacy and worked with our primary school to help them self-publish PIRATE FAMILIES, a chapter book based on characters and storyline brainstormed by the students. I hold an MA in journalism from Stanford University and a BA from Harvard University in American History & Literature.  I am co-organiser of the southeast Scotland network of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.

In this blog I talk about the process of writing, getting published, and promoting children’s fiction. Would you like me to e-mail you whenever I publish a new blog? Just enter your name in the subscribe form to the right. I have also contributed social media how-videos for authors to the SCBWI-British Isles blogzine, Words and Pictures.

I adore gardening – visit me at Stopwatchgardener.com

If you’ve come here looking for my gardening blog, you’ll find it at The Stopwatch Gardener. I don’t run my fortnightly podcast anymore, but you can still read archived blog posts, where I go on a bit about all things horticultural.

Looking for a professional copywriter?

Previously I served as Ireland correspondent for USA Today and was a reporter with the San Jose Business Journal, Silicon Valley’s chief business newspaper. I also founded the original IT newswire in Ireland, ElectricNews.Net, which ran from 2000 to 2011. Now, my colleagues and I run a professional copywriting company, ENNclick, where we use our journalistic skills to write marketing materials for IT, telecoms, healthcare and professional services companies.  Find more about our copywriting services at ENNclick.com
